Ear piercing has become quite the craze in the past years as fashionistas have leveled up their ear parties and gotten more adventurous with the placements of their ear piercing. Gen-z loves the spontaneity and adrenaline rush of a new piercing experience and you will too! When deciding on a new ear piercing whether it is your first or you’ve done it before, there are lots of things to consider such as: aftercare, healing time, pain, and more. Continue reading to learn more about the piercing process and make good decisions before stepping into the piercing lab!

What Piercing Should I Get Next?

Many people begin with a simple lobe piercing at a young age and then move up to a second and third lobe piercing, but what comes after that? It depends on your pain tolerance and how committed you are to the healing process. The image below shows the most popular placements that people ask for in our piercing lab, but if you are interested in another type, our piercers are happy to talk through a more customized ear piercing for your ear type! We also offer nose piercings if that's more your style.

How Long Will My Piercing Take To Heal?

Now if you are like me, the first question that comes to mind after knowing what piercing you want, is how long will this take to heal. I always need to know the type of commitment I am making in order to have the best results for my piercing, because no one likes getting infections or risking your new piercing closing up. So let's talk healing time:

LOBE: 6 to 8 weeks

FLAT: 3 to 4 months

HELIX: 3 to 4 months

CONCH: 3 to 4 months to a year

FORWARD HELIX: 3 to 4 months

TRAGUS: 3 to 4 months to a year

These are just estimates of how long each ear piercing takes to heal. It’s important to remember that everyone's body is different and will have different experiences with the healing process and timeframe. When we say it takes 3 to 4 months to heal that means it takes that long for the initial healing process but can take up to a year to be considered fully healed.

Does It Hurt To Get Your Ears Pierced?

Pain varies person to person, but most people describe ear piercing as a brief pinch. Cartilage piercings may hurt more than lobe piercings due to the stronger tissue the needle passes through. However, at Adina Eden we take the most precaution in our sterile techniques and high quality tools to minimize the discomfort and complications involved in the piercing process. If you are concerned about the pain, simply talk it through with our piercers who will explain everything to you as they go through the process so you are not faced with any surprise discomforts. They are experts, trust me on this one!

What Earrings Do I Get Pierced With?

At Adina Eden all of our ear piercings are done with flat back studs. The flat back stud is the optimal choice when getting pierced because it helps with the healing process as the flat back allows for less to get caught on the back of your earring and make sure the earring stays secure.

We offer both 14K gold earrings along with titanium options for a more affordable price point. Both options are hypoallergenic, but the best results come from the solid 14k gold earrings. We have a variety of shapes and sizes for you to choose from in silver and gold, and solid or pave accented styles. The price range starting at $98 for 14K gold and starting at $50 for titanium options.

How Does Needle Piercing Work?

When you arrive for your appointment, our piercers will talk you through the whole process, but here is the breakdown of our piercing experience using a needle. A needle is used instead of the piercing gun because it helps create a more sterile and enjoyable healing process for our customers. All of our needles are single use, making sure they are always 100 percent sterile.

Preparation: Your piercer will clean and disinfect the piercing area using antiseptic wipe and mark the placement with a marker. You will then check out the placement and if you want it adjusted, don’t be afraid to ask, our piercers want to make sure you love your piercing.

Needle Insertion: Using a hollow needle, your piercer will swiftly pierce through the skin or cartilage depending on the piercing type. The needle creates a clean hole, allowing for smooth insertion of the jewelry.

Jewelry Placement: Once the needle is removed, your piercer will insert the jewelry into the fresh piercing and secure it in place.

Cleanup: After they insert the earring, they will take a q-tip to clean around the pierced area. Finally, you will check out your fresh piercing!

How Do I Care For My Piercing After I Get It?

Straight from our piercing expert Yolanda, she says the best time to clean your piercing is right after you shower. Take an anti-bacterial hand soap such as Dial, and lather it up in your hands. You’ll apply the lathered soap to the front and back of your piercing, and move your earring back and forth about 5 to 6 times. Then you’ll rinse out the soap with some water. Finally, once all the soap is removed you can dab the area with a paper towel. We suggest a paper towel because it is the most clean and less likely to pull or get caught in your earring.

A common side effect of piercings, especially around the cartilage piercings are piercing bumps on the back of the pierced area. If you clean your piercing like Yolanda suggests, you will most likely avoid these bumps!
